Vilnius University awarded the HERITY cultural heritage quality management certificate

On September 18 certification ceremony took place at the Vilnius University. The architectural ensemble of the University was awarded the HERITY cultural heritage quality management certificate. Prof. Renaldas Gudauskas, Director General of Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania and HERITY International Board Member, stated that the main significance of HERITY activity was the value created by well-managed cultural heritage and provided to the public.

The Vilnius University is the first cultural heritage object in the Baltic states, and the first university in the world which was evaluated by the world of cultural objects management system for quality assessment. HERITY recognition certificate is granted for three years. The patented system of certification ensures greater VU ensemble attendance, its’ international recognition, and increased attention to maintenance and preservation of it.

During the certification process, the old Vilnius University library had been evaluated as a part of a culture heritage object. HERITY certificate is designated to assess archives, museums, libraries and other cultural heritage objects. At the near future certification of cultural values preserved in the memory institutions is planned as well.
